10 Must-Try restaurants in Hoi An

After spending several months immersed in the flavors and streets of Hoi An, we’ve gathered enough experience to confidently share our favorite spots for a memorable culinary adventure.

Keep in mind, these are our personal preferences, and the city continues to surprise us with new gems even as we write this.

1. Banh Mi Phuong

Banh Mi Phuong is for me perhaps the most balanced and fine tasting banh mi I’ve tried and I’ve tried many.

This one isn’t extremely large, rich in taste or extraordinary but it is definitely tasting extremely balanced and fresh.

I personally consider the number 1 sandwich—bread filled with smoked pork hock—to be the best, even more so than the more popular thap cam.

2. Bún đậu Hà An

This restaurant serves, hands down, my favorite Bun Dau Mam Tom ever. While Bun Dau Mam Tom originates from Hanoi, I find this version even more delicious—the sauce is richer, and they add fried mushrooms, which I particularly love.

Of course, this sauce isn’t for everyone, but you can always opt for nuoc mam. For those who enjoy the famous fermented shrimp flavor, there are few foods on earth that can rival its intensity.

3. Sinh tố Tâm

Sinh tố Tâm is our go-to breakfast spot. We love their bread with eggs and avocado, which happens to be one of their most popular breakfast sandwiches.

They use fresh, perfectly ripe avocados and add crisp, lightly pickled vegetables with a hint of soy sauce, creating a perfectly balanced bánh mì.

They also serve delicious smoothies, including my favorite, the Sinh Tố Bơ (Avocado Milkshake). Yes, it’s a lot of avocado, but it’s a great way to enjoy some healthy fats.

4. Co Thu BBQ Restaurant

Co Thu BBQ Restaurant is a simple spot offering just a few dishes, including pork marinated and grilled on a skewer.

You essentially wrap the skewers in leaves and two types of bánh tráng (rice paper)—one wet, one dry. It’s a straightforward dish, but in our opinion, incredibly flavorful.

We really enjoy the place, though it’s not for meat lovers looking for large portions. Each skewer is relatively small; the focus here is on refined, nuanced taste rather than sheer quantity.

6. Pizza Phuong Uyen

Pizza Phuong Uyen is easily one of the best pizzas we’ve had in a non-chain restaurant in Vietnam we’ve tried. It’s run by a Vietnamese team, yet they serve genuinely Italian dishes with impressive authenticity.

The first time we visited, we didn’t know what to expect — and we were genuinely blown away by the quality and flavor of the pizza.

It’s the kind of pizza that could stand proudly next to those served in Europe. Just keep in mind that you need to eat it hot and fairly quickly, as imported cheese tends to harden fast. The large size is huge, making it perfect for sharing with friends.

7. Dac San Che Ha Noi

In Hoi An, you’ll find countless places serving great Chè — spots like Tiệm Chè Xíu or Chè Cô Bích are already excellent. But for us, Đặc Sản Chè Hà Nội is still the best we’ve tried so far.

Even though this style of Chè doesn’t originally come from Hoi An, they use a coconut milk that tastes almost like almond milk, giving the dessert an especially pleasant, delicate flavor.

And if, like me, you’re a fan of Sầu Riêng (Durian), their Chè Sầu Riêng is one of the best you’ll ever have. Otherwise, they also offer amazing alternatives like Thốt NốtNếp Cẩm, or Trúc Bạch.

8. Ga Ran 24/7

Ga Ran is a small spot specializing in fried foods — think fried chicken, French fries, sweet potato fries, and even corn dogs.

As big fans of chains like KFC, Popeyes, and Lotteria, my family and I were genuinely impressed by the quality here, especially considering the great value for money.

Just a heads-up: they use real cuts of chicken and fry everything in proper oil, so the dishes are quite rich and filling.

9. Quan Banh Beo 17

Bánh bèo is a bit like a steamed rice cake topped with sauce, shrimp, chives, and crispy fried pork rinds. Add a splash of nước mắm and it’s pure heaven.

It’s not very filling unless you eat thirty of them, but it’s a perfect light dish — ideal as an appetizer or a small bite to start your meal.

We highly recommend the banana fried cakes which are delicious.

10. Bi Liến Phở

Straight up, pho is my favorite dish, and I love both the Northern and Southern styles. But Central-style pho is very different from what most people expect.

It actually tastes similar to the Vifon dry pho you find in Asian supermarkets, because it follows that specific flavor profile.

The broth is much clearer and lighter, they often add peanuts, and they usually serve it with just one type of meat. This spot offers the widest selection and the cleanest version I’ve had.
